John Patrick Nicholson

John Patrick Nicholson, 22, of Bellevue, Nebraska, passed away on September 9, 2018, in his family's arms at home after a seven-year struggle with brain cancer.

John Patrick was born on July 5, 1996, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Charles and Catherine (Baker) Nicholson. Homeschooled through high school, John Patrick attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he was a Regent's Scholar enrolled in the University Honor's Program majoring in IT Innovations. In May 2018, John Patrick served as a Student Marshal at the UNO graduation ceremony. On September 6, 2108, three days before his death, John Patrick submitted his Capstone Project to the Peter Kiewit Institute, who then approved his senior project. John Patrick was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 319 in Omaha. An Eagle Scout, his project raised $4,500, which he used to buy fourteen Samsung Galaxy Tablets for Kids to donate to Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, where he spent so much of his time, in order to assist the patients with therapy and fun. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus at the JPII Newman Center where he lived for the last two years. He belonged to St. Peter Catholic Church in Omaha and received support from Our Lady of Peace at Offutt Air Force Base.

John Patrick is survived by his parents, Charles and Catherine of Bellevue; his brother William of Austin, Texas; his sister, Sarah Webster, brother-in-law, Benjamin Webster, and nephew, Charlie, of Omaha; along with his brother David at home. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Thane and Sally Baker of Bellevue, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
