Von Kathryn M Seggern

Kathryn was born to George and Mary McNamara of Beemer, Nebraska. Kathryn attended Cuming County Rural School District #19 and then Guardian Angels Catholic High School in West Point, NE. After attending the College of St. Mary in Omaha, NE for two years, Kathryn taught in Beemer,NE and North Bend,NE public schools. Her special relationship with College of St. Mary continued through the years until her death. She completed a bachelor’s degree in education at the U. of Nebraska in 1942. In December 1942, she married Vernon Von Seggern of Uehling, NE. After accompanying him to various WWII training locations, she returned to Beemer to give birth to her son David. After the death of her husband Vernon in December 1944 in WWII in France, she lived with her son in Beemer until 1954. While in Beemer, she continued teaching at Wisner, NE public school. In 1954 she and her son moved to Omaha, NE, and she joined the Omaha Public School system and taught until 1959 when she took a position with the Omaha Library system. She retired from the library in 1978 and commenced to travel broadly. She was a volunteer in Children’s Hospital for 15 years. She belonged to the Reserve Officers’ Auxiliary League for many years, holding several offices including president of the Nebraska chapter. Even in the last years of her life, Kathryn continued to lay flowers on soldiers’ graves in Omaha during Memorial Day military services. In her retirement, she modestly served as an aide to many friends who have preceded her in death. Having lived on N. 59th Street for 53 pleasant years, Kathryn moved to the Via Christe assisted-living home in 2010 at age 96. Kathryn will be interred in the Wisner, NE cemetery next to her sister Patricia (dec. 2015) and her brother James (dec. 1984).



Survived by son, David Von Seggern of Reno, NV, grandchildren, Sunil Andreycakof Ligonier, PA, Merrit (Amy) Von Seggern of S. Portland, ME; great grand-daughters, Elizabeth, Kathryn and Anne.

Saturday 10:00 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 6116 Dodge Street, Omaha, Nebraska



Interment:

Saturday 3:00 PM at the Wisner Cemetery, Wisner, Nebraska

College of Saint Mary, namely the Vernon and Kathryn Von Seggern Scholarship.
