Adam A. “ Kirk” Kirchofer, age 95, was born at home in Omaha, Nebraska and died at Brookestone Village in Omaha on the evening of August 3, 2021. He was the middle son of Mathilde A. and Adam M. Kirchofer who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary; his son Robert; his two brothers; John and Donald Kirchofer; Amy Stevens and Aaron Thompson.
Adam graduated from Blessed Sacrament grade school in 1939 and North High School in 1943. He continued his education earning a BS degree in Business Administration from The Municipal University of Omaha, later UNO, followed by a BS degree in Engineering-Business Administration and finally a Masters of Arts Degree from Creighton University. He continued to audit classes at Creighton and Metropolitan Community College even into his 80's illustrating his love of life long learning.
He served in the US Army in an infantry squad of the Anti-Tank Company, 35th Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. Private Kirchofer earned the Combat Infantry Badge in the mountains of Northern Luzon, Philippines and later served in the occupation forces in Japan culminating in an Honorable Discharge on November 18, 1946.
Adam married Mary Huser on June 24, 1950 in Omaha, Ne. and together they raised 6 children. He retired from Northern Natural Gas Company after 34 years and pursued a second career in real estate development. He loved searching the county for property with potential. He and Mary enjoyed many trips to Europe with Austria being his favorite. He traveled twice to China with Creighton in his 80’s. He also kept in contact and visited a family in Japan who befriended him 60 years earlier.
Adam was an active member of the North Omaha Kiwanis and later the West Omaha Kiwanis.
Adam is survived by children, Nancy (Mike) McCarthy, John M. Kirchofer, Thomas Kirchofer, Jane Southard, Susan (Mary) Stroesser; grandchildren, Beth (Max) Engel, Tom (Violaine Huisman) McCarthy, Dan McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Eric Southard, Alicia Thompson, Andy (Alex) Callaway, Elijah Stroesser and Nicholas Stroesser; 12 great grandchildren; sister in law, Phyllis Huser; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the St. Croix hospice nurses as well as the entire staff at Brookestone Village who cared for him this past year.
