After an almost 40 year battle of heart disease, Alan F. Meyer, 73, of Omaha passed away with loved ones present
on March 14, 2020. He was born November 25, 1946 in Ft. Dodge, IA to Norman and Elsie Franzen Meyer.
He was baptized and confirmed in Pomeroy, IA. He attended parochial schools and graduated from Pomeroy High
School. He then attended CE Business School in Omaha, NE. He married the love of his life and high school
sweetheart Karen K. Carlson on June 17, 1967 in Pomeroy, IA.
He held several positions during his career always keeping his goal of owning his own company. He worked for
National Gypsum and Pan O’ Gold Bakery in Fort Dodge, IA. He worked at Northern Natural Gas, Northern Coal
Company, Vics Popcorn, People’s Natural Gas. From there, he fulfilled his entrepreneurial dream of owning his
own business. Not only was it his business, but most importantly, it was his family. He was the Chairman, CEO and
owner of People Service. He was the inspiration behind the entire operation that led to over 30 years of success.
He was an active and highly involved member for over 45 years at St. Mark Lutheran Church. He was instrumental
in the growth and building of St. Mark. His commitment, inspiration and driving force made the church and school
what it is today. In addition, he served on the board of Concordia Lutheran Schools.
The most precious time he had was spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. He
loved interacting with people and participated in golf and bowling leagues for many years. You could find him
cheering on his grandchildren at any sport they played. He made several trips to Hawaii. His favorite place to relax
was Lake Okoboji. He and his family made at least one trip each year over the last 50 plus years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Karen, daughter Tonya (Lonny) Achenbach and Eathan, son Chad
(Riley) Meyer, Halle and Dillon. Brother Merlin (Carol) Meyer, Brother-in-law Gary Carlson and many nieces and
nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parent Norman and Elsie Meyer, granddaughter Raelyn Achenbach.
