Alice A. Forget

Alice Ann (Doody) Forget. Passed away peacefully on January 25, 2021 surrounded by family, after a painful battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Gerard (Jerry) Forget; her 12 children (Michael, Andrew, Steven, Gerard III, Edward, Timothy, Mary, Joseph, John, Anne, Margaret and James); 36 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.



Alice was born in May of 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to Thomas and Mary Ellen Doody. Her parents had immigrated to New York from Canada in search of a better life. She grew up in Brooklyn in the family home that was built by her father, surrounded by the love of her parents and two sisters Margorie (Belligan) and Dorothy (Murphy).



Alice attended St Thomas Aquinas grade school in Brooklyn. Her husband Jerry will tell you that this is where they met, in kindergarten, on the school playground. After graduating from high school with high honors, she earned a full tuition scholarship to St. Joseph College for Women where she studied English Literature. In the fall of her freshman year, Alice met the love of her life at a dance. After three years of college, and a whirlwind courtship Alice married Jerry on September 15th, 1962.



Following their wedding, the couple relocated to Biloxi, Mississippi, where Jerry was stationed with the Air Force. Their 58-year adventure began there and led them through many different states, 12 children, and a multitude of mishaps and adventures, the last chapter in their lives together spent in Bellevue, Nebraska.



Alice loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She referred to each of her children as a masterpiece and encouraged them to grow into the unique individual they were created to be. She shared all of their successes and was a sure shoulder of strength and deep love through life’s difficult moments. Alice would often say, “A happy home is better than a perfect house”. Helping with homework, after school projects, making costumes for the Christmas pageant or a spring sing, Alice always had an open ear and a loving heart for the daily lives of her children.



After raising her family, Alice returned to college. She attended classes at Bellevue University and was awarded a degree in General Studies from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn in 1997. Following graduation, Alice took a position Creighton University’s School of Graduate Studies as an Educational Liaison at Offutt Air Force Base. She enjoyed assisting people in finding graduate programs which allowed them to gain skills and open new opportunities.



During her life, Alice was also a talented seamstress, painter, gardener, and knitter. She often made handmade gifts for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed learning new techniques in her hobbies especially when she could do this while sharing time with one of her children or grandchildren.



Alice loved to travel with her husband and family. They enjoyed camping, boating, bicycling and hiking. Alice dubbed her family, “The Adventurers Club” as they were always seeking new places to visit and new experiences to enjoy together. Alice and Jerry also enjoyed many trips through state parks across the country throughout their marriage and spent several summers boating through the Great Lakes and through southern Canada.



After retiring, Alice and Jerry spent time each winter in Florida, away from the cold Nebraska winters, with Jerry’s siblings. Whether walking on the beach, enjoying a round of mini-golf, or dinning together the couples relished these times together in their golden years.





Faith was a centerpiece in Alice’s life, and she attended daily mass at St. Mathew Catholic Church and said the rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet daily for the intentions of everyone who asked for her prayers. Throughout her adult life, she taught Sunday school, prepared young people for Catholic Confirmation, and taught baptism class for new parents.



Everyone who knew Alice will miss her. We remember the precious moments like enjoying a cup of hot tea, sharing stories about family and friends, and laughing with Alice. We know that she is in the loving embrace of the Heavenly Father and we are grateful to have known her.
