Aloysius Wallace Pollack was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Alois & Dorthy Pollack. He was the second child with 3 sisters, Barbra, Shirley and Ruthie. He graduated from West Allis High School, Class of ’65. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January of ’67, just days before his 20th birthday. He was assigned to Grand Forks, North Dakota where he later got his driver’s license in the motor pool at the age of 21. From here, he was deployed to Vietnam from 1969-1970.
In July 1970, he married Yvonne Bieganski in Hawaii before finishing his tour. When returning home in September, he re-enlisted while expecting his first-born daughter, Jennifer, who was born in September of ‘71. Six years later, the couple welcomed their second daughter, April in April of ’77. The family spent two years in Holland, and two years in Spain before coming back to the states. In ’87 the couple’s marriage dissolved and he was separated from his family when he was assigned to Germany.
Upon arrival in Germany, he found his way back to the church where he began his own RCIA journey. He was so impacted by the experience, he made it his life’s mission to bring as many to Christ as he could. One year later, a phone call brought him back together with his daughters and he was assigned to Omaha where he retired from 25 years of service as an Aircraft Maintenance Systems Analyst in ’92, as the 49th Chief Master Sargent of the Air Force.
In ’95 he celebrated his first grandchild, Caleb, followed by Chloe in ’01, Sarah in ’04 and Joshua in ’08. His passion quickly changed from military service to family, where his strength in his faith continued to grow as he continued his stewardship here at St. Matthew’s. He dedicated his life to Christ and everyone around him where he touched the lives of so many with his contagious smile and the most genuine, humble heart. Though our hearts ache in his absence, we are grateful for every moment we shared with him, and his spirit lives on in each of us in the stories we tell and the memories that we hold close.
