Ann Marie Uryasz died peacefully at home June 14, 2019, with her devoted husband of 66 years and their family present.
Born April 30, 1933, in Omaha, NE, Ann was soon given the nickname “Peach” by an older cousin and from that point on, even her closest friends couldn’t tell you her given name. Born to Francis (Frank) J. Welsh and Theresa K. (Tess) Welsh (née Mulvihill), Peach grew up in the shadow of Omaha’s St. Cecilia Cathedral, attended Cathedral Grade School and Cathedral High School and Duchesne College.
Peach and Frank were long-time parishioners of St. Bernard Catholic Church and later St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Peach enjoyed her work for the Catholic Cemeteries of the Omaha Archdiocese, especially her time at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery where she was equally adept at consoling grieving families or, on a rainy day, beating the maintenance guys at a game or two of “knock poker.” A long-time Omaha funeral director noted that “Peach made coming to the cemetery fun.”
Peach was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Tess Welsh, her brother and sister-in-law Robert F. and Margaret Welsh and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Gerald Sharkey and infant sister Kathryn Ellen Welsh.
Peach is survived by her husband Frank D. Uryasz Jr. and their children: Nancy Uryasz and Greg Fennessey, Julie Uryasz and Carol Garey, Frank D. III and Ann J. Uryasz, and Steve and Margie Uryasz. Also surviving are grandchildren Justine (Ryan) Richard, Tim Uryasz, Michael (Lauren) Uryasz, Claire (James) Harris and Christopher Uryasz, and great grandchildren William Uryasz and Caroline Uryasz. Peach leaves behind many friends, caretakers, nieces, nephews and cousins including niece Sue Welsh Parmenter whose medical advice and care for Peach added years to her life and life to her years.
Peach’s family is grateful for the excellent care she received from the staff at Remington Heights Assisted Living and Hillcrest Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:15 am, Tuesday, June 18 at St. Cecilia Cathedral, where Peach received the sacraments and married the love of her life November 15, 1952. Lunch following funeral. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery.
