Barbara Loucks Berger

September 24, 1927 — October 18, 2014

Preceded in death by her husband, Alvin B. Berger, a long-time Omaha Business man and owner of Midwest Premium Linen Company; and her brother, John Loucks of Naples, FL. Survived by son, Robert H. Berger (Sharyl) Berger; daughter, Carol Berger; grandchildren, Tab and Samantha, all Omaha; sister-in-law, Cory Loucks of Naples, FL; sister, MJ Neiswander of Cleveland, OH, Patty L. Carlson of Palm Harbor, FL. Mrs. Berger was the Arts Education Coordinator of the Nebraska Arts Council from 1981-1987. In 1984, Gov. Bob Kerry made her an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy. For several years prior to that time, she was the Assistant Manager for the Nebraska Theatre Caravan, the professional touring wing of the Omaha Community Playhouse. She was Past President of the Omaha Junior League, the Creche Children's Center and the National Society of Colonial Dames-Nebraska. She was Queen of Ak-Sar-Ben in 1954. Just after being honored by Ak-Sar-Ben, Barbara was stopped and received a speeding ticket. When she approached the judge, he said "I have no authority over royalty" and dismissed the ticket. She served on the board of the Nebraska Women's Golf Association for many years and was an 8-time Women's Golf Champion at the Omaha Country Club.
