Beryl Thomas, known to friends as “Buzzard,” passed away on March 27, 2022
surrounded by his loved ones. He was 73 years old.
Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bessie Thomas. Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Lou; children, Ryan (Yesenia) Thomas and Hannah (Jacob McClinton) Thomas; three grandchildren, Juliana, Santiago, and Selena; his extended family, his faithful clients, and many good friends.
A beloved barber for over 50 years, he is best remembered as a Vietnam veteran with stories of his grand adventures working on helicopters and as an incredibly loving, faithful husband, father, and grandfather who never met a pie he did not like. He enjoyed restoring classic Pontiacs as a member of the Pontiac Owners’ Association, sharing cookies and quality time with his grandchildren, falling asleep at the Scherer’s watching football, and spending his weekends at the racetracks. You could find Beryl just about every morning at Vidlak’s Brookside Cafe for breakfast or taking his wife out for date night to one of their favorite restaurants (outside of racing season, that is).
Through his devotion to the Church, Beryl served as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Parish and as a two-time RCIA sponsor.
On behalf of Beryl, his family wishes to extend gratitude…
To the VA Hospital’s RNs in Perfusion who- for over two years have seen him two times per week- showed love and compassion and gave him cake! Thank you!
To the race team of Cody Olsen, who with Gary and Cindy went to the racetracks with Beryl every weekend during the season. Go 777!
To Rick Phillips for saving his seat and the gang at Vidlak’s who met him for breakfast every day.
To all his customers who have been so loyal and wonderful and so understanding
through the last months with his schedule and that stuck with him through the fire and the pandemic when he had to close the shop. Thank you for your patronage!
To his dear friends and relatives both near and afar, but mostly to his loving family- who will miss him so, so very much. We love you, Beryl.
