Betty E Schanbacher

January 12, 1926 — April 15, 2016

Betty was born on a farm in Plattsmouth Nebraska to William and Ella (Siemoneit) Halmes. She attended a K-8 one room school near her home. After graduation from Plattsmouth High School, Betty taught in that one room school for two years before pursuing her teaching degree. She graduated from Duchesne College and began her teaching career in St Louis, where she met her husband, John Schanbacher. They married in 1950, and moved to Omaha. Together they had 6 children. They were married 44 years before Johns’ passing in 1995. Betty had a life long love of learning and after many years teaching elementary school she went through Montessori training and opened a Montessori preschool in her home. Betty enjoyed travelling, gardening, china painting, cooking and entertaining family and friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and style and wearing beautiful hats with flare.



She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Peter and brother Peter and wife Helen, and brothers-in-law Ken Thompson and Bob Fahlberg.



She is survived by children and spouses: Dr. Mark and Barbara Schanbacher, John and Cheryl Schanbacher, Dr. Paul Schanbacher, Drs. Mary and Kurt Davey, and Dr. Carl Schanbacher; grand children Drs. David (Jenna Derr), Ann Hamel (Colin), Jonathan, Jim, Steve (Kristy), Krissy (Kyle Seay), Phil, Joe, Christopher, Paige, Julia, Lukas, Paul Davey, Sam Davey , Margie Davey, Owen and Dean; four great grand children - Allie, Gabi, Titus and Emma; sister Bernice Fahlberg, and many nieces and nephews and friends.



Services:

Monday (4-18-16) 10:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, Omaha, Nebraska.



Visitation:

Sunday (4-17-16) 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a Wake service at 7:00 PM at the John A. Gentleman 72nd Street Chapel, Omaha, Nebraska.



Interment:

Resurrection Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.



Memorials:

Mount Michael Art Dept., Christ the King Church or Catholic Daughters.
