Brenda Joy Johnson

On Friday November 26, 2021 Brenda Joy Johnson passed away at the age of 64. Brenda is preceded in death by her father Donald Carmichael; brother Dennis Carmichael; step-father Keith Hampton; maternal grandma Florence Frazier; grandmother Rose Johnson and grandmother Bertha McKellips; father and mother in-law Robert and Dorothy Johnson; sister-in-law Sherry Morris and brother in law Randy Johnson. She is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” Johnson; sister Denise (Gary) Soper; sister Nancy (Wayne) Murray; brother Scott Carmichael; brother-in-law Gerald D. Morris; cousin Lorna Mae Geist and mother Lois Hampton; step-mother Jan Carmichael; children: Julia, Jeff (Shannon), Jeremy (Tina), Brian (Noelle), and Christy (Donald); grandchildren: Anthony, CJ, Rian, Emma, Austin, McKenzie, Ashton, Sterling, Clayton, Justis, Trinity, and Destiny; great grandchild Izzy and her favorite son Felix the cat.



Bob and Brenda met at Parkville Days in 1978 and got married March 24, 1983. Brenda went by Joy to most, mama to many and ninja by a few and BlaBla by 3 of her granddaughters and monk to her really old friends. Joy was passionate about her family and loved spending any moment she could with her grandbabies. She was so fun to be around with her witty come-backs and smooth ninja moves. Her eyes would light up when anyone came into the room and she was always so happy to see her friends and family.



Joy had an affinity for horses and enjoyed having them around her. She also loved having her kitty, Felix, around her all the time. Felix would only listen to Joy and would sleep under the covers with her.



As a little girl, Lois would take Joy to the restaurant and Joy loved waving at everyone she saw. She loved greeting anyone she met with a huge smile.



Growing up Denise and Joy shared a room. Because of Joy’s fiery soul, their bedroom would have to have tape put on the floor to divide their bedroom.



Scott and Joy would ride horses as kids. They would race Star and Dynamite as often as they could and Joy would have the time of her life. Riding horses made Joy so happy.



On the farm, when Joy was young she would go out and pick blackberries with her siblings. When they would come back they would have blackberry stains all over their mouths. Her grandma would ask them all if they ate them and she always got a resounding “Noooo!”



One night a few years back Joy was enjoying some adult beverages with a few of her kids and older grandkids. After about 4 or 5 beverages she declared herself as “Ninja.” There wasn't a dry eye around as everyone was laughing so hard. The reason the granddaughters called her BLaBla is because when they were little grandpa would call her Brenda to be funny and the the girls couldn’t pronounce it and it became BLaBLa for many years.



One night recently before getting pedicures Joy and Julia went through town and came upon a small municipal airport. While driving around this airport (named Garth Brown) she insisted Julia to stop the car so she could ask a random man if he knew Garth Brooks (due to the name of the airport). What makes it even better is that the whole time they were driving Joy was set on not talking to strangers.

In 2005 Joy had a medical scare and was in a coma for several weeks. When she came out of it, she began to gain a little extra weight. When at the doctors office one day the dr. told her she was getting heavy and asked why. Joys response was “That when in the hospital they gave her fat people blood. TO this day we still laugh about it.



During another drive with Bob and Julia, on the way home from Denise’s a song came on the radio that Joy liked. She rolled down the windows, turned the radio up and started singing and dancing with her hands and arms outside of the window. She was having an absolute blast!



Joy loved watching her murder mystery shows and westerns. You can guarantee that if she was watching your TV that she was watching one of these types of shows.



Joy and Bob moved to Arizona from Nebraska in October of 2020, so she could be close to her mom, sister, and her beloved Angie. They sure did enjoy this time together watching Housewives, getting pedicures, eating out, shopping, facials, and just hanging out. Of course Gary had to have the wonderful great tasting weekly BBQ. When she would get back from these adventures with the girls she would tell Felix and Bob all about it.
