Born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he retired from Union Pacific after a 42-year career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (McDonald) and Charles F. Burke Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Hotz) Burke; children, Carol (Ernie) French of Johnson Lake, NE, Mary (David) Stokes, Daniel (Grace) Burke, Michael (Kristine) Burke, Jon Burke, all of Omaha, and Terri (Michael) Socha of Saddlebrooke, MO; grandchildren, Noah (Shelly) French, Nathan (Haley) French, Ashlee French, Brad (Shawna) Burke, Jeffrey (Lynn) Stokes, Andrew Stokes, Alyssa Stokes, Matt (Christina) Socha, Meghan (Nick) Peterson, Mollee (Steven) Seger, Adam, Brett, Jack, and Christopher Burke; great-grandchild Sander Stokes; honorary grandchildren, Nolan, Natalie, and Alexis Reynolds and Makenzie and Brayden; brothers, David (Mary Lou) Burke and John (Tamara) Burke; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation 6-7pm with a wake service at 7pm Sunday, March 13 at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries 72nd Street Chapel. Funeral Mass 10am Monday, March 14 at St. Joan of Arc Parish, 3122 S 74th Street followed by burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
