Survived by brother Robert J. Downing; children Steven M. Pettit (Tracy) and Jerri L. McGill; grandchildren Rachel L. Greene, Lisa M. (Matthew) Truesdell, Joseph B. Pettit, Amy M. Dunham, Lauren A. (Brian) Dilthey, Colin A. McGill, and Mackenzie A. Manire; 10 great grandchildren.

As an artist, Carol was known for her graceful and evocative paintings that elicit a nuanced sense of time and place. As a person, Carol was a font of wit, empathy and affection for her friends and family.
