Christopher D. (Casey) Brown, 44, of Haverford, PA. passed away surrounded by his immediate family. He endured chronic autoimmune disease all of his adult life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy G. Brown, Grandmothers, Mary Alice Brown (née Enright) and Gloria Grasse (née Kitzrow), and Grandfather, Richard Grasse.
He is survived by his daughters Corinne and Lilah Brown of Haverford PA and their mother, Katherine Brown; father, David Brown and stepmother Leigh Officer of Omaha, sisters, Claire Inbody (Curt) of Lincoln and Colleen Cooley (Tim) of Omaha, niece, Delaney Cooley and nephews, Elliott Inbody and Brooks Cooley. Further survived by Grandfather, Claire E Brown of Wauwatosa, WI. and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends from his schooldays.
He was raised in Omaha and did his undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska, followed by his PhD at Stanford University and Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Chicago. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. Casey was a brilliant and incisive scientist, whose innovative work centered on approaches to understanding how human genetic variation controls gene expression. He was also a gifted, deeply informed, and highly charismatic teacher, who was beloved by his students and trainees.
Casey loved music, cooking, vegetable gardening, Man City football and craft beer. He adored his research lab and students, his fellow faculty members, family, lifelong friends, but he loved nothing more than his two daughters.
A Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, March 25, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Arbor Hall, 14040 Arbor Street.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Brown children’s college fund, C/O David Brown.
