Corky Overfield

July 10, 1937 — June 19, 2022

Cordelia “Corky” Sue Jane Overfield (Froetschner), aged 84, died peacefully in her sleep on June 19, 2022. Corky was born July, 10, 1937 in Larned, Kansas to Roy and Mary Froetschner. In school, she was involved in various musical groups, theater, and intramural basketball.



She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1958 and, shortly after graduation, married Richard “Dick” Overfield on July 19. Corky taught high school P.E. and business for three years in Kansas. While living in Maryland, she worked as a secretary. After moving to Omaha in 1965, Corky stayed at home to raise her children, then worked in District 66 as a paraeducator and secretary until retirement in 1999.



Corky enjoyed traveling, reading, bridge, bowling, cross-stitch, crocheting, sewing, and walking on the beach and birding on Sanibel Island in Florida.



She is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Julie (Jeff) Shields, son Doug, granddaughter Emmalee, grandson Adam, sister Donna (Norman) Christensen, her extended family, and many wonderful friends. She donated her body to The University of Nebraska.



Her memorial visitation is Sunday, July 10, 2-4 p.m. at the John A. Gentleman Mortuary, 72nd Street Chapel.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nebraska Humane Society or Lauritzen Gardens.
