Reading, Music, Dancing.



Member of the Willa Cather Society;



Member of the Neihardt Society;



Active in Nebraska Democratic Party;



Served on the Opera Council and



traveled all over the world to hear opera;



Member of the Mari Sandoz Society;



Served on the Landmarks Commission;



Served subcommittee of the City Planning Department;



Member of the League of Women Voters;



Supporter of the Omaha Symphony;



Attended University of Texas at Austin, 1941;



Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Omaha University, 1944;



Turned down a scholarship for a master’s degree from Stanford



University in order to marry her husband in 1944 during WWII;



Received a Masters in Latin American History From



the University of Nebraska at Omaha, 1964;



Taught Latin American History at UNO;



Avid reader, always a member of a Great Books Group;



Cynthia and Charlie traveled extensively, loved dancing;



Spoke fluent Spanish, President for many years of the Las Casas,



a Latin American Social Club;



Assisted Rose Blumkin in establishing Mrs. B’s Warehouse.



Cynthia attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated



from Omaha University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, the first in her family do so.



She received a Masters degree in, as well as taught, Latin American Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.



Cynthia turned down a scholarship for a Masters degree from Stanford University in order to



marry her husband, Charlie, on June 29, 1944, during WWII.



During many years of her marriage to Charlie, she worked at and designed high-end furniture for his company,



Charles Schneider, Inc., a manufacturer of upholstered goods. Cynthia also employed her keen business sense



in assisting Rose Blumkin as she established Mrs. B’s Warehouse.



Cynthia was a member of the Willa Cather Society, the Neihardt



Society, and the Mari Sandoz Society, the League of Women Voters, the Landmarks Commission and



a special committee of the City Planning Department. She was most interested in historic preservation, as well.



An enthusiastic advocate of the arts, Cynthia served on the Opera Omaha Council



and traveled the world over with Charlie to hear great opera. She was also a supporter of the Omaha Symphony,



missing Friday night performances only when traveling. Her passion for politics and activism kept her



deeply involved in the Nebraska Democratic Party,



and she worked on several campaigns for Democratic candidates over the decades.



She introduced politics to her children and nieces and nephews



and invited them to work on campaigns with her. Cynthia and Charlie traveled extensively,



visiting every continent at least once.



They loved to dance and made it a Saturday night date for a good number of their married years.



They especially loved summertime in Omaha, tending to Cynthia’s extensive and bountiful vegetable garden



and enjoying their beautiful yard and flower gardens from the back patio of their home.



She loved to cook, and she and Charlie entertained friends and family in their home often and with great flair.



Cynthia was an avid reader, always a member of a Great Books Group.



She was a fluent in Spanish and served as president for many years of the Las Casas, a Latin American social club.



Cynthia threw an annual party at her home where the group enjoyed delicious drinks and



dishes she prepared, dancing Latin numbers well into the night.



Cynthia was devoted to her family, and she will be greatly missed.



Preceded in death by her parents, Isadore and Rose Blumkin; husband, Charles Schneider;



daughter, Margy Schneider and grandson, Nigel Schneider; sister, Frances Batt and



brother Louis “Louie” Blumkin. Survived by sister, Sylvia “Babe” Cohn; sister in law, Frances Blumkin;



sons, Jerry Schneider and Bruce (Jeanne Reichstadt) Schneider; son in law, Greg Searson;



grandsons, Michael Schneider, David Schneider, Cole (Maggie Doherty)Schneider, Jay Searson,



Todd Searson; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
