David L. Trembley

July 13, 1942 — December 13, 2020

David, a loving husband and father, retired Navy recruiter, equipment operator and truck driver, died unexpectedly on December 13, 2020 with his wife, LaRee Stephens, of 19 years at his side.

David Leroy Trembley was born on July 13, 1942, in Concordia, Kansas to Napoleon Gideon Trembley and Evelyn M. (Fecther) Trembley. Dave first entered the Navy in 1959 and was stationed in Boston where he started a family. He left the Navy in 1965 and returned to Kansas, where he drove for Ideal Truck and had a Snap-On Tool business. In 1985 he reenlisted in the Navy, became a Seabee and then served as a Naval Reserve Recruiter in Lincoln, NE and also as an instructor for the Construction Battalion 15 and the NOACT Unit. He retired from the Navy in 1998. Over his lifetime he worked in various construction and transportation roles.

Dave was a fighter and had been winning battles with cancer since 2007. He also loved to play with “big boy toys,” including going for rides with the American Legion Riders, the Patriot Guard, and with his buddies and wife whenever he could on his Gold Wing Trike. He also loved shooting pistols, playing in the dirt, and fellowship.

He had a zest for life and would not sit by and let cancer rule his day. He never complained, continued to think of others, and with God’s help and the help of family and friends, frequently noted that life had been good and worth living. He praised God for the many years that he was given. He worked hard and played hard; he fought the good fight.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Alice Hockenberry and step-father, Douglas Swihart. Survived by his loving wife of 19 years, LaRee Stephens, children, Ruth Ann Zorra, Curt (Rose) Trembley, Scott (Kym) Trembley, Trace Trembley, Janell(Cory) Fletcher, Michelle Cleary, Michael (Julie) Trembley, Michelle(Quaine Day) Stephens, and Christopher Stephens; 14 grandchildren, his great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ken Hockenberry; many extended family and good friends.
