David Lee Bailey, 79, of Omaha, NE died on August 3, 2021 surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 13, 1941 in Moline, IL to Ed and Pauline Bailey and grew up in
Ottumwa, IA.
Dave served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, stationed in Fort Dix, Hawaii and Vietnam.
He married Julia Roop on April 25, 1965. They lived in various places before settling in Ollie, IA
for 45 years and later moving to Omaha, NE in 2017.
Dave worked as a journeyman tool and die maker at Lund International for more than 30 years
and later owned and operated Bailey’s Corner with his family.
Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Julie; a son, Phil Bailey (Jennifer) of Bennington, NE; a
daughter Jenni Brothers (Todd) of Bennington, NE; grandchildren, Jarid, Jordan, Sydney, and
Tyler Bailey, Andrew and Wesley Brothers; great-grandson Reese Flakus; brother Gary Bailey
(Darlis) of Borrego Springs, CA; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Bailey; his parents; in-laws Loyal and Virginia Roop;
brothers, Max and Daryl Bailey; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Bailey.
In his younger days, Dave enjoyed playing baseball and slow pitch softball, painting Street Rods,
and attending car shows. He loved music and played in a band with his sons. Dave enjoyed
riding motorcycles and attending the Sturgis motorcycle rally each year. He spent a lot of time
caring for his lawn, flowers, and garden ornaments. He was an avid movie, traffic, and Fox News
watcher. After moving to Omaha, he was able to spend even more quality time with family.
Along with Julie, he helped care for their grandson, Wesley, during the week.
