Don Moray was a man of his word, who was always on time and could always be counted on. Every day. Without fail. After he retired – he spent most of his career at ENCOR – Don loved nothing more than to spend time with his wife, Beth Ryan, his daughters and stepson, their spouses, and his grandchildren, Especially his grandchildren. Don would often take the kids to and from school. From Kindergarten through High school his oldest grandson, Pete Volk, knew his Grandpa would be waiting, with a cold bottle of water in hand, to take him home from school. Fridays were donut days, fresh from Gerda’s Bakery. His two granddaughters, Helana and Morgan, became known as “the donut girls” at preschool. And Don truly cherished his play time with the little ones, his youngest grandsons, Mack and Nathan.
Don was ever-present for celebrations big and small. There were water balloon fights, epic Halloweens, summer trips to Okoboji, Grand Lake and back to Ann Arbor, and on birthdays, always his hand written notes of praise and encouragement .
Family was everything for Don. And while he enjoyed other pleasures – a glass of single malt scotch, a burnt chocolate chip cookie, always a good book and black coffee, discussing politics (he was a lifelong democrat) – it was his family that sustained him.
Don died July 29th at his Omaha home, surrounded by his family. He was 75. Donald A. Moray Jr. was born in Adrian, MI and graduated from St Thomas High School in Ann Arbor in 1963. He moved to Omaha to play football at the University of Omaha, now called the University of Nebraska Omaha.
