Donald Gene Kesting was born on July 3, 1949, the eldest son of Harold and LaVetta (Deitloff) Kesting. He attended rural school, Zion Lutheran school and Pierce High School. In 1969, he answered a call to duty and joined the U.S. Army including a year in Vietnam. Upon his safe return home, he married his high school sweetheart, Bonita Gudenkauf, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Osmond. They spent their entire married life in and around the Omaha area where Don had a 40+ year career building roads. He paved countless miles of streets and highways throughout Omaha. He was known for his ability to fix almost anything and he freely shared his talents with family and friends.
Mr. Kesting died at his home near Bennington on April 24, 2020. A memorial service is planned for a later date. The family will direct memorials to the grandchildrens' college funds.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonita, daughters Dina (Aaron) Haberer of LaVista and Angela (Dan) Wordekemper of Omaha, three grandchildren, Reese Haberer, Margaret and Jackson Wordekemper. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers, Anece (Bob) LaGrande, Bellflower, CA, Karen Christianson, Norfolk, Harold Lee (Diane) Kesting, Marge (Keith) Silahcek, and Roger (Sharon) Kesting, all of Pierce, brother-in-law Don (Nancy) Gudenkauf of Osmond, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.
