Dorothy Evelyn Barmore

January 14, 1921 — October 16, 2014

Dorothy Evelyn (Thompson) Barmore went home to the Lord on October 16, 2014. Dorothy was born in Forest City, IA, the only child of Arthur B. and Alma O. Thompson. She received her B.A. in English from Fletcher College in Iowa, where she met her future husband, John Barmore. John and Dorothy were wed on August 5, 1945. The couple lived for some time in Yokahama, Japan, where, after helping to found a church during John's military service, then returned to make their lifelong home in Omaha, NE. Dorothy loved and served the Lord in many ways, as a dedicated mother of 4 children and as a long time member of the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle later, Christ Community Church. She had a tender heart toward those who suffered around her, taking compassionate care of her parents and in-laws for many years of extended illnesses. She founded the Woman's Auxiliary at the Open Door Mission in downtown Omaha and served on that board, as well as the board of the Okoboji Missionary Conference, in Iowa. Dorothy died peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family, and tended by her dear caregiver, Grey Morales. She is survived by her husband, Dr. John Barmore; her children, Ann Elizabeth (Barmore) Hintze, David Arthur Barmore, Alice Jean Barmore, Robert Jennings Barmore; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, who live in joyful expectation of her life to come: "We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him." I Thessalonians 4:14
