Dorothy Susan "Johnson" Redding

January 2, 1922 — February 27, 2016

Dorothy Susan Johnson was born January 2, 1922 to Mabel and Lewis C. Johnson in Omaha, NE. She was their only and much-cherished child. On October 24, 1944, this most wonderful young woman married the most wonderful young man, Winton R. Redding, and they had four children. Winton, who died in 2008, was the love of her life, and she was the love of his life.

She is survived by her children Ellen Snoddy (Donald, deceased), David (Carol), Beth Jareske (Mike), and Rita Hejkal (Tom). She has showered her fifteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild with much affection, love and prayers.

Dorothy was an early and ardent supporter of the Civil Rights Movement, and was active in various dimensions of the Pro-Life Movement, including the Pro Life Association of Nurses. She was a long-time volunteer for the Red Cross, always involved in school and parish work, and active in the Pro Sanctity Movement. She had a special love for the Legion of Mary and was active in it until she was physically unable.

One of her sons-in-law says, “She broke the stereotype of a mother-in-law” – loving, welcoming, and thoughtful towards all her in-laws.

A main focus of her life was her faith. Although she didn’t become a Catholic until adulthood, her heart had always been drawn to the Mass and Sacraments.

She fully embraced her vocation as a wife and a mother, and her children are forever indebted to her for the many hidden sacrifices she made for them.

That she has died during the Jubilee Year of Mercy is fitting since her most outstanding virtue was her willingness to forgive even the deepest injuries.
