Duane Thelen was born in Carroll, Iowa to Lambert and Marie Thelen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lambert John and Marie Thelen.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and they were married for almost 60 years. He is also survived by his children Alan (Sandy), Steve (Bridgette), Cary (Pam), Don, and Dale (fiancée Jill); and by his sister Elayne Friend.
He also leaves six grandchildren: Michael, Carly, Allison, Hannah, Kayla, and Bennett.
Duane graduated from Creighton University in 1956, and also earned an M.B.A. from Creighton in 1971. He was a certified public accountant and a partner in the accounting firm of Ernst & Young. He worked in Omaha, New York, Oklahoma City, then again in Omaha.
Duane was active in community service throughout his life. For example, in Oklahoma City he served as advisor of disbursement of funds to the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing. He was awarded volunteer of the year for Catholic Charities in Omaha. And he was a frequent coach for youth sports teams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 10:30 am at Christ the King Catholic Church.
Visitation:
Visitation begins Monday, 4:30 pm at the John A. Gentleman Mortuaries, 72nd Street Chapel, 1010 North 72 Street Omaha, Nebraska 68114, with a Wake Service at 6:30 pm.
Interment:
Resurrection Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.

Suggested to the American Parkinsons Association or Catholic Charities.
