Eileen Schafer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Elkhorn, Nebraska, on January 24, 2025.
She was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating from Cathedral High School, she worked at Mutual of Omaha for a few years before finding joy working as a machinist at Vickers. She eventually retired at the age of 57.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Sr. and Edna (Smith) McDermott; sons, Pat, Mike, and Tim; siblings, Father Tom McDermott, Frances Rodgers, James McDermott, Phillip McDermott Jr., and Mary Larson; and grandchild, Kenneth Wells.
She is survived by her children: Vicki (Glenn) Carr, Kelly Bartlett, Terry Schafer, and Kathy (Shawn) Harris; sisters, Pat Wilson and Theresa (Jim) Tunender; brother, William McDermott; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Eileen enjoyed watching movies, listening to artists like Josh Groban, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Neil Diamond, and Tom Jones, just to name a few; gambling (playing cards, bingo, and casino), and traveling to various states and countries.
Our family would like to thank the incredible and caring staff at Brookestone Meadows for giving the best care to our mom, grandma, and great-grandma.
