Ernestine Katherine Hanna (nee Flanagan) was born to Katherine and Ernest Flanagan in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 20, 1937. She spent her formative years in Corpus Christi, Texas. She had four brothers, Michael, Patrick, Daniel and Neal, and a sister, Yvonne. Patrick and Yvonne preceded her in death. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Ernestine met and married the love of her life Dennis Wayne Hanna, a United States Air Force Officer in December 1959. They had three children, daughters, Robin Gayle and Deane Marlaine, and son, Dennis Wayne, Jr. She loved being a housewife and mother. After her children were raised, she worked for several years in retail sales and as a hospital outpatient receptionist.
During her husband’s 25-year Air Force career, she lived in several locations, including Sacramento, California, Wichita, Kansas, Little Rock, Arkansas, Columbus, Ohio, Rantoul, Illinois, Athens, Greece, Abilene, Texas, and Omaha, Nebraska. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, she resided in Abilene, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ernestine adored and doted on her grandchildren, Nadean Wetmore, Britt Webb and Bridget Pyle, Daniel and Kelsey Twight, and Mark Hanna, great grandchildren Kyle, Kole, and Kirsten Wetmore, Corben and Dennis Pyle, Caden and Brayton Webb, and Daniel Twight, Jr., great, great grandchildren Adalynn, Kinslee, and Cooper Wetmore, and Everly Staat.
Ernestine loved people and made many life-long friendships throughout her travels. She was an avid Bridge player and loved video poker. There were so many highlights during her life that she enjoyed, besides her family, the two-and-a-half years residing in Athens, Greece, vacations to Isreal, Maui, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Niagara Falls, Canada, the two-week motor trip through the northwest U.S with her husband and granddaughter, water rafting with her daughter and granddaughter, family reunion in Galveston, Texas and many, many more.
She loved life, and everybody that her life touched loved her. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, and friend that anyone could ever wish for. Truly, the best of the best.
We love her, we will miss her, and she will live in our hearts forever.
Her funeral was private, family only as she had requested. She was interred at the Omaha National Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska. Donations may be made to St. Jude’s or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children if so desired, the charities she most cared for.
