Eugene (Gene) T. Gordon, age 93, aka “Doozer” and “Papa” was born in Chicago to Joseph and Lillian Cullen Gordon. He left this world January 16, 2018 which happened to be (what would have been) his 71st wedding anniversary to his beloved wife, Patricia Jane June O’Connor Gordon (1924-99). There can be no doubt that Pat and their son Mark Gordon greeted him with open arms when he crossed over Tuesday morning. Gene lived his life with great kindness and integrity. He will be remembered for his cheerful witticisms and devotion to his family. Gene was rightfully proud of his service as an Army Air Corps co-pilot in the 449th Bomb Group during WW2, and while he didn’t single handedly kill Hitler, it wasn’t unusual for his grandsons to believe he may have been involved in that. He earned a BA in economics from the University of WI-Madison on the GI bill and it was there he met the love of his life, Pat. They raised five children who never heard him raise his voice in anger. His insurance career was fruitful and allowed him to pursue his love of golf. Did you know he made 8 holes-in-one? EIGHT! A man lucky in love and life, he was perpetually good-natured, optimistic and well-respected.
Although he is now on the other side of the “green,” as he often quipped, he is lovingly remembered by his many descendants: Son, Tom Gordon (Mary O’Keeffe) of St. Johns, Newfoundland, daughters, Katie Bryant (Steve), Amy O’Connor (Tim) of Omaha and Jennifer Parker (Jerry) of Eagan, MN and 9 grandchildren: Andrew and Clare Gordon, Seth, Mark & Hannah Bryant, Matthew and Rachel Macchietto, Luke Parker and Madeleine Parker Hunt. Gene also adored his 9 great grandchildren and chortled whenever he was with them. Additionally, he was graced by his lovely companion, Edith Nabity for the last decade of his life.
