Francis Benedict "Frank" Harrington

March 20, 1920 — July 4, 2015

Omaha. A native of Champaign, Ill., and resident of Sioux Falls, S.D., from 1954 to 1996, when he moved to Omaha. In Omaha, he lived for 16 years at New Cassel Retirement Center and three years at Brookestone Meadows. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a reporter and copy editor for newspapers in Rock Island and Galesburg, Ill., and the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader. He worked in public relations for the Sioux Falls Public Schools and led the Minnehaha County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He married Dolores G. Rielly on Sept. 14, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church in Rock Valley, Iowa. Preceded in death by his wife Dolores G. (Rielly) Harrington (1991); parents, Thomas L. and Mary E. (Sullivan) Harrington; half brothers, Leonard, Ralph, Bernard, Earl, George and William Harrington; half sisters, Edna Steffen, Margaret Fleshner, Sr. Dolores Harrington, O.S.B., and Grace Ducey. Visitation with family Monday, July 6 from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by vigil service at 7 p.m., at John A. Gentleman Westside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at New Cassel Retirement Center, 900 North 90th St. Visitation one hour prior to service at New Cassel. Interment 4 p.m. Tuesday, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rock Valley, Iowa. Memorials to New Cassel Foundation.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at New Cassel Retirement Center, 900 N 90th Street, Omaha NE 68114. Burial will be at 4:00 PM on Tuesday at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa.



Visitation:

5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, July 6, 2015 at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries 72nd Street Chapel, with a vigil service to be held at 7:00 PM.
