Frederick Jacob Bender Jr. was born the youngest of eight children to Fred and Eileen Bender on November 22, 1953.. He was raised on Miami Street and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1971. Fred went on to receive his Bachelor’s from UNO. He was married to Betsy Albright on August 5, 1983. Together they have 4 wonderful children: Jon, Becky, Jimmy, and Sarah.
Fred was a lifetime, active member of Holy Name Catholic Church, a founding “father” of Omaha’s largest Fish Fry, Treasurer of the Men’s Club, and a leading force in the Restore The Glory Campaign. For over thirty years, as Omaha passed through the doors every Friday of Lent, Fred totaled tickets and greeted Fish Fry guests. As a beloved coach, Fred mentored hundreds of youth soccer players. A devoted man of faith, he and Betsy led TEC retreats for Catholic teens in the Omaha community for many years.
A prominent member of Omaha’s electrical community, Fred was responsible for the education of thousands of electricians throughout the country. His brilliance and no-nonsense communication are well known.
As a loving father, Papa, uncle, and brother, Fred will be remembered for the cookies that he baked, his quick wit, great golf game, and the legacy of love that he left us.
Fred is survived by his children, Jon (Ashley) Bender, Becky (Jason) Galvan, Jimmy (Kelsey) Bender and Sarah (Patrick) Lynch; 10 amazing grandchildren: Gabi, Peyton, Bre, Lilly, Jay, Maggie, Emmy, Colin, Theo, and Tyler; sisters Sharonanne Bender, Peggy Cruver, Mary (Delbert) Potmesil and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years Betsy Bender, parents, Frederick and Eileen Bender, brothers Dennis, Thomas, Patrick and Jerry Bender, and brother-in-law Joseph Cruver and many loving friends.

MASS of Christian Burial Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Name Catholic Church.
VISITATION with the family begins Friday, February 7, 2025, at 5 p.m., at church with a WAKE service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Name Men’s Club Restore the Glory.
