George F. Carthay

George Frazer Carthay, 75, of Bellevue, NE, passed away on September 25th, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.


 George graduated from Northport Highschool in Long Island, NY and went on to attend Purdue University, and graduated with a business management degree in 1970. George was a dedicated employee of Union Pacific’s Crew Management Systems, He worked there for almost 30 years before retiring in 2013.


 In his spare time, George loved being outdoors and had a variety of hobbies to keep himself busy, including cooking, drawing, reading, riding his motorcycle, fishing, playing his ukulele and perusing yard sales. One of his favorite spots was at the Lake Manawa Boat Club in Iowa. George loved volunteering as their local handyman and was in the process of learning how to sail.


 George is survived by his two children, daughter Meghan (Nick) Safranek and son, Patrick, his two grandchildren, Ava and Aiden, his brother Jon (Jane) and sister Jill (late Bill) Willcox and his cat “Hey You!” 


A memorial visitation honoring George will be held Wednesday, October 5th, from 3-5PM at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries, 3402 Samson Way, Bellevue, NE 68123.


 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Life Thrift in Bellevue, NE or The Salvation Army.
