Helene Francis Soby

Helene Francis Mahoney Soby was born on October 11, 1939, to Nelson and Ann Marie Mahoney in Angola, New York. She passed away on April 14, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 84.

Helene was spiritual, devoted, nurturing, proud, loyal and generous. She lived the greatest virtue of all – love.

On January 24, 1958, Helene married her lifelong partner, Carl Edward Soby. They lived in Buffalo, New York, until they made Omaha, Nebraska, their home.

She and Carl showed their love by adopting 11 children, making their home complete with a family of 19. She taught all of her children to believe in themselves.

Helene longed for the beaches of Lake Erie. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and studying her Catholic faith.

Helene is survived by her loving husband, Carl Soby, children: Michael (Debbie), Tuan (Jacklyn), David (Cindy), Ann Marie (John), Paul, Katherine (Glenn), Peter (Kerry), Mary, John Michael, James, Theresa (Jimmy), Danielle (Jay), Erick, Natasha, Ben, Bridget (Cameron), Patrick, 28 grandchildren, 7 great grand-children, and her sister Sandy Sippel. She is preceded in death by her parents and sons: Mark and Thoa. 

Visitation will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Rosary 7 pm at St. Leo Catholic Church, 1920  N. 102nd St, Omaha. Funeral Services will begin Saturday, April 20th at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to CUES School System.
