Henry “Hank” Raymond Zich was born in Omaha on September 25, 1929 to Elsie Geil Zich and Carl Zich. He was the third born of five sons. He enjoyed his childhood in the family home near Miller Park. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was all state at North High School in basketball and baseball in 1947, in addition to playing football. After graduating, he played minor league baseball for the Cardinal organization until he was called to service in the Army Signal Corps, where he helped construct communications for the armistice talks in Panmunjom on the 38th parallel in Korea that led to the end of combat in 1953.
After returning home, he and his first wife Donna welcomed a daughter, Joni, and son, Jerry. He worked at Northwestern Bell for 35 years. He managed offices in Chadron, Sidney, and South Sioux City, before returning to Omaha.
He enjoyed his retirement years with his wife, Jo, actively involved with their three grandchildren and traveling, including frequent trips to Las Vegas. He attended their grandchildrens' every sporting event, dance recital, and performance regardless of location or weather conditions.
