On January 4, 2017 the gates of Heaven swung open to welcome a good and faithful servant, Jim Nelson. Jim had a servant heart and served his community well. He excelled in athletics in track and wrestling eventually earning a wrestling scholarship to UNO after graduating from Bellevue High School.
His greatest contribution was his media talents, developed over the years first working at all the local affiliates of the networks, then as owner of Jim Nelson Media Services through which he developed many programs to serve youth such as Video Kool Skool. One of the projects which gave him much personal and professional satisfaction was reimagining the local public access station, KPAO, into a viable and sustaining public service. Throughout his illness he continued to direct and manage the station utilizing the services of many volunteers who shared his vision for the station.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth Nelson, a son, Michael and his mother, Polly, grandsons Michael and Hayden, two sisters Bernadette of San Antonio and Pamela of Irving, Texas, and many close friends from high school, college and his professional life. He learned his communication skills and affable nature from his parents, the late James A Nelson, Sr., and Lorene Nelson and credits his mother with putting the first video camera in his hands.
