Jim Martin, 73 of Omaha, died Sunday June 16, Father’s Day. He was born July 28, 1950 in Omaha Nebraska to Dr. Paul J. Martin and Marie L. Martin. He enjoyed a loving childhood and upbringing as one of six siblings.
A gifted student, Jim distinguished himself academically in his grade school years at Holy Cross and again in High School, attending Creighton Prep where he graduated with just shy of a 4.0GPA. Not only did Jim excel as a student in high school, he also had great personal drive and began a successful lawn business. Jim would go on to build his lawn business throughout his years at Prep, Creighton University as an undergrad and his years at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Grad School where he earned a Masters in Business Administration. Jim took a great deal of pride in the fact that he was able to pay his own way through high school, undergrad and graduate school.
Clearly a diligent and gifted businessman, Jim spent 18 years of his business career in San Jose, CA working for corporations such as Memorex and Deloitte Touche Financial, LLP. Following his corporate career, Jim moved back to Omaha and established his own successful business as an Independent Financial Consultant.
Jim loved his country and during his early professional career, took time out to pursue a position in the elite U.S. Army Airborne. Although he successfully passed the rigorous training required to become an Airborne Ranger, Jim’s severely bad eyesight would prevent him from his goal of serving actively. Jim proudly remained an Airborne reservist for some 15 years. Jim’s love of country also extended to his many charitable concerns. Chief among those was The Wounded Warrior Project to which he donated generously and consistently for 20 years.
Although Jim never had a family of his own, he loved his many nieces and nephews. He wasalways there for them as a friend, a mentor and financial guide. He was, in many ways, a rolemodel for them and was beloved by them. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Paul J. Martin and mother, Marie L. Martin. He issurvived by siblings Pete (Kathryn) Martin of Papillion, NE, Eileen (Rolland) Lech of Denver, CO,Katie (Pat) Abbott of Albuquerque, NM, Mike (Jeri) Martin of Omaha, NE, Bill (Margaret) Martinof Baton Rouge, LA and of course his many nieces and nephews.
