In 1959 Jim earned a B. A. in Business Administration from Penn State. He remained a life-long Penn State fan. He Studied at the NYU Graduate School of Business Administration. He was inducted into the Quarter Century Club at Merrill Lynch in 1984 and acquired Penn State alumni status in 2009. He married H. Jean Kissell in 1959 (d. 1981) and they raised three children. He designed and built his own 7000 sq. ft house in Leesburg, Va. He married Helen Stanton in 1984. They moved to Omaha in 2007 and became active members of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Besides being an accomplished cook, Jim enjoyed golf, fly fishing, and wood working.

Survived by wife, Helen Stanton Chapple; children, Alan Chapple, Evan (Holly) Chapple, Alison Lee; grandchildren, Griffin, Bennett, Meredith, Alex, Abby, Hannah, Riley, Elijah, Samuel and Grace Chapple, Jessica, Harrison and Daniel Lee.
