Jane F. Flood

August 31, 1935 — February 3, 2022

Jane McKim Flood, age 86, passed away peacefully February 3, 2022, after a brief illness.

Jane Frances McKim was born August 31, 1935, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Edward and Mary McKim. She graduated from Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in 1953 and Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis, MO in 1957. A month later, she married her husband James Leo Flood, MD and they enjoyed 58 happy years of marriage until his death in 2016. They had seven children in seven years, and raised them in Denison, IA, where Jim was a surgeon and Jane was a stay-at-home mother. She took to heart Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat’s commitment to education; as a result, her children pursued professional degrees in medicine, law, and education. Her loves included her husband and children, traveling, and reading. She had a keen interest in history and loved entertaining. She cherished the opportunity to meet new people and hear their stories, and she loved to laugh. Jane and Jim moved full-time to Lake Okoboji after Jim retired, and they enjoyed their life there with kids and grandchildren visiting them. They returned ‘home’ to Omaha in 2014 as Jim’s health declined, and she renewed friendships and made new and lasting friends at the Arboretum and St. Margaret Mary’s parish, where she and Jim had married 57 years before.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Edward and Mary McKim, her sisters Elizabeth Hotz Hartigan and Ellen Wallace and her brothers Edward McKim and Larry McKim. She is survived by her children James (Patti), Kevin, Joan Mauel (John), Patricia Bilden (Philip), Patrick (Betsy), Kathleen de Rubertis (Corbin), and Michael (Cathy), twenty-two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Duchesne Academy or St. Margaret Mary’s Parish, both in Omaha.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary’s Church on February 9, 2022, 10:30 am, and a luncheon to celebrate her wonderful life will be hosted by the family at The Field Club following the Mass.

She will be buried alongside her husband Jim in Okoboji during a private family ceremony in the summer.
