Jonathan “Jon-Jon” Andrew Sherman
March 18th, 2000 – August 30th, 2020
Jonathan Andrew Sherman, known to his family and friends as Jon-Jon, passed away on Sunday, August 30th. Born in Omaha to his proud parents, Allen and Dulce, he was welcomed into his loving family by his older brothers Michael, Thomas and Eli, his grandparents and a ton of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
If you ever met Jon, his radiant smile would light up the room. He had this beautiful head of wavy, dark brown hair that was super soft to the touch. Jon was very meticulous, particular, and neat especially about things like skincare and dental hygiene. He loved to be comfy - whether it was his favorite blue shorts, pineapple patterned pajamas, blanket, or even his favorite leather jacket.
He was very curious and inquisitive. He was a good debater and had very strong opinions about a lot of things. Whether it was politics, capitalism, women’s right to choose, the environment, and LGBTQIA+ rights. He also enjoyed supporting small, independent filmmakers which is why you could find him at Film Streams watching movies like Parasite.
One of his favorite things to do was going to a favorite restaurant he was craving with Mom and Dad, especially dinner at Dante’s, Stirnella, Blue Sushi, and Lighthouse Pizza. He was very particular about his food. He loved organic mangos, jackfruit, peaches, spinach, and every kind of vegetable you could imagine.
Like his Mom, he loved flowers, especially lilies and hydrangeas. Jon potted a banana tree and planted chocolate vine in the back yard. Mom loved having deep conversations with him about life and his dreams. He had dreams of owning a farm and growing his own food. Like his Dad, Jon was a gearhead. Dad loved talking cars with Jon, who dreamed of owning an old, used luxury car and getting it for a steal. He was on a never-ending search for the perfect car. He had a gas when he drove a brand-new, red convertible Miata and a smile from ear to ear afterward. He talked about it forever. Jon also loved animals, especially his pet, a white tree frog. You would often find Jon walking around with the frog on his shoulder, arms or hands. He would take him out to their pond in the backyard.
Growing up Jon has unique connections with each of his brothers. Jon was often found wrestling with Eli at every family gathering. He would stop by Thommy and Taryn’s house unexpectedly to visit and spend quality time as uncle to Grace and Miguelito. Jon looked up to his big brother, Michael, who he would meet up with to eat at Block 16.
He had the best dry sense of humor and would joke around with everyone. Undoubtedly, Jon would catch you off guard with one of his one-liners too. He loved to shuffle around the house and tease his Mom. He loved sending quirky pictures to his cousins with goofy expressions. His Instagram comments were legendary.
There is so much that can be said to describe our sweet Jon-Jon. Selfless, soft-spoken, kind-spirited, mindful, respectful to name a few. Family was important to Jon, often holding their needs before his own. He was the sweetest, kindest, most gentle, and loving young man. He was patient, generous, giving, and it brought him so much joy to give to others. He was so endearing and had a big heart - he felt things very deeply.
What will we miss most about Jon-Jon? Every. Little. Thing.
Jon, thank you for the privilege of being in our lives - as our son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, grandson, and friend. We hope you are at peace now with Grandpa and Grandma Mejia, Aunt Tammy, Uncle Kevin and your cousin, Vanessa.
You will forever be our littlest boy. Love, Mom and Dad
