Karen Green

March 20, 1962 — January 16, 2025

Bellevue

Karen Green, age 62, passed away on January 16, 2025, with her loving husband, Larry, at her side. She was born March 20, 1962, in Havre, Montana, to Bruce and Afton Seamons, the third of seven children.

Karen was a twin, which is unusually common in her family. She has a twin brother, a father who is an identical twin, and two younger siblings who are twins. In addition, her first husband was a twin, along with his mother and two younger siblings. To top it off, Karen had twin boys, Nate and Nick, linking her to seven sets of twins spanning three generations.

Karen grew up in Rupert, a small farming community in southern Idaho. At an early age she learned homemaking skills to sew, crochet, knit, prepare meals, bake, and can food. She made the best cookies, especially butterscotch! Mothering her younger siblings helped her develop her caring and mothering nature. She learned to work hard at home doing yard work and chores. Her first jobs included hoeing beets, working on a potato harvester, and serving fast food. She played the piano and clarinet and enjoyed participating in sports such as volleyball and softball.

After graduating from Minico High School in Rupert, Idaho, she married Jerry Norby and had three children: Tiffany, Nate, and Nick. She spent her first few years of motherhood living on a family farm and devoting her attention to her children. Later, she relocated with her children to Utah to work in a law office.

In 1993, Karen married the love of her life, Larry Green, a meteorologist at Hill Air Force Base. Theirs was a beautiful marriage of 32 years. She laughed that Larry promised “marry me and the military will help us see the world” and his assignments took them back and forth between Nebraska and Utah. Karen supported Larry during a one-year tour in South Korea beginning in July 1996 and traveled to meet him there when it concluded. She also supported him during tours in Saudi Arabia (Jun–Sep 1994) and Oman (May–Sep 2002). They have resided in Bellevue, Nebraska for the past 27 years.

Karen liked to travel. Some memorable trips with Larry include Alaskan, Caribbean, and Mediterranean cruises. Her interest in music led them to Branson, Missouri, to enjoy the shows. She especially looked forward to trips visiting her children in Idaho, Utah, Texas, and Colorado. Wherever they went, they liked to visit the temple.

Karen loved reading, Cross-Stitch World on her Kindle, and watching professional tennis and Hallmark movies. She gained a fanaticism for tennis from her sister, watched all four majors every year, and even attended a professional match in Ohio. One of her favorite pastimes was playing card and board games with her family. She had a quiet yet fierce competitive spirit to win and still could hide her disappointment when she lost. She and Tiffany canned food together for the past fifteen years, and her family loved her banana bread and banana cake.

Karen performed volunteer work in the community. She spent many years working in the office of Habitat for Humanity. More recently, she loved helping the Red Cross at the Offutt Air Force Base Pharmacy. She sent weekly updates to her daughter and sister describing the fast-paced and busy environment. She drew satisfaction from encountering problems and figuring out solutions that helped the customers.

Karen was spiritually minded and had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She read her scriptures daily. The sacred hymns were meaningful to her. She would hear a phrase or melody and then search for the hymn to discover the message that God intended for her. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she loved the temple and attended weekly. A typical Friday night date with Larry was to share corn dogs and fries at Sonic and then visit the temple. She served in the young women and relief society organizations. She was also a music leader and temple worker. Karen was a loyal, faithful, loving, and committed friend. She created many friendships with those she served and impacted many lives.

Karen’s family was her most prized possession. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Larry shared a deep love and complemented each other’s strengths. Larry’s steady support during life’s challenges was instrumental in her being able to serve others and pursue her interests. Karen’s spiritual gifts and organizing talents blessed Larry’s life to its fullest. Karen loved each family member unconditionally and was their biggest cheerleader. She cherished being with her children and grandchildren and planned special occasions to make memories with them. She was constantly involved in assisting with projects, attending activities, watching grandchildren, and recently helped Tiffany’s family relocate. Her Christlike love and example of service leave a legacy that will continue to bless her husband and posterity.

Karen is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Green of Bellevue, Nebraska; children Tiffany (Kevin) Rose of Castle Rock, Colorado, Nate Norby of Pocatello, Idaho, Nick (Krystal) Norby of Grand Junction, Colorado, Kristin (Brian) Weeks of Dallas, Texas; and 10 grandchildren: Kylee Rose, Katelyn Rose, Kelsey Rose, Tyler Rose, Allie Norby, Maelie Norby, Allura Bratsch, Kaylee Weeks, Asher Weeks, and Brighton Weeks.

Karen is also survived by her father Bruce Seamons of Burley, Idaho, and siblings Robert Seamons of Heyburn, Idaho, Kent (Linda) Seamons of Cedar Hills, Utah, Barbara (Curtis) Patterson of Sandy, Utah, Darla Seamons of Provo, Utah, and Alan Seamons of Rupert, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her mother, Afton Seamons, and infant brother, David Seamons.
