They resided near our family Farm in Jewel County Kansas who shortly thereafter moved to Omaha Nebraska.
He is survived by a daughter, Katherine J Van Ornam; grandson, Aiden Talmon; siblings, Susie (Bill) Chatel, Tim (Diane) Van Ornam, Beth Van Ornam, Belinda Becker, Mark (Sabine’) Van Ornam, Joel Van Ornam; countless nephews, nieces, friends and family.
Kurt was a real man, he was honest, intelligent, and witty. Kurt was true to himself; he was not easily impressed, nor did he attempt to impress others. Because Kurt was real that makes him easier to remember. If you are someone he cared for, your name would be listed in his phone and he would call from time to time.
Here are just a few attributes of Kurt Van Ornam…
Kurt was a Craftsman and a perfectionist. Kurt loved to fish, and he took several trips when the opportunity was right. He loved to golf, and he was always up for a good backgammon game which he could count on Graham and Belinda for that.
Kurt loved the Beatles and he was a great storyteller. He would say “that a cat had nothing on him”.
He had countless close calls…. The incident at the Dog Pound, the heart attack at Village Inn and he was also run over by a Jeep when he was stationed in Thailand serving in the Airforce as a Fighter Jet mechanic.
The last 15 years Kurt committed himself to cancer drug studies with Dr. Luke Nordquist, the nurses and staff who he called his angels. Kurt was tough and he was strong, I imagine John Wayne taking off his hat to shake Kurt’s hand.
Kurt enjoyed his life; he has made an impact on all of our lives.
