Lester Black is known as a person who was always trying to make people laugh and was happy to try out his jokes on new people. Through his actions, he taught his daughters and those around him to see the humanity in all people from all backgrounds and circumstances. He was a musician and played in multiple bands including Akakasa; The Band of Time; Good Grief, Going my Way, Baby Lester and the Buggy Bumpers; Goss and Lysdahl; Lester and Company; and others. There were countless stories from his time with band-mates on the road. He was thankful for those people he spent time playing music with and those who came to watch. He was honored and thankful for his dear friend's recent publication detailing stories of their 1976 year on the road titled "Baby Pictures" by John Burns. He graduated from Rose Hill Elementary; Monroe Junior High; Benson High School in 1968; and ultimately graduated with a business degree at University of Nebraska Omaha.
Les spent his early childhood in the shadow of his father, Duane's, chronic life limiting illness. Ultimately his father passed away when he was only 8 years old. His mother, Norma, raised him and his sister, Loraine, as a single mother during the 1950s/60s. Life was not easy and he found solace in the special relationships and bonds he had with his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Although life was tough, laughter was not in short supply.
Despite his many struggles and maddening shenanigans, Lester always remained a lovable, forgivable man with a loving heart. We have hope that he's now basking in the light of Christ's immense and eternal love and peace.
Les is preceded in death by parents, Duane and Norma Black.
