Omaha. Letitia “Tish” passed away peacefully at the Josie Harper Hospice House. She was born in Lexington, Nebraska to Donald and Marjorie Hargrave. Due to dust storms, they moved back to Spencer, Iowa when she was 3 weeks old. She spent her early childhood in Spencer. They moved to Omaha in 1942 where her father was employed at the Martin Bomber Plant. She attended Monmouth Park School and graduated from North High School in 1948. Upon completion of Comptometer Training, she worked 10 years at jobs with Paxton Gallagher and Northern Natural Gas Companies. She met her future husband, John E. Shafer, at her father’s barber shop and they married on Sept. 23, 1956 at Pearl United Methodist Church. They had 2 children, Karen and Steven. She was a member of the Methodist Church since age 12 and was certified to teach 2-5 year olds, serving in the nursery and teaching 2 year olds for 8 years. She was active as a leader in Camp Fire Girls, PTA, and various volunteer work as her children grew up. She had been a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She enjoyed playing violin, gardening, tatting, and various types of needlework. In recent years, she had been especially involved in tracing family history.



Letitia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John E. Shafer. Survived by daughter, Karen (Shafer) Vinson and husband, Larry of Omaha; son, Steven Shafer of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Gaylen Hargrave, Sun City, AZ; grandchildren, Jonathan Shafer of Omaha and Rebecca Shafer of Council Bluffs, IA; and other family and friends.



Funeral Service 10AM Friday, Feb 27, 2015 at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries 72nd Street Chapel. Visitation Thursday 6-8PM. Interment in Dickens, IA. Memorials to Josie Harper Hospice House.
