Lois N Friedman

June 30, 1923 — February 19, 2016

Lois Friedman was born in Omaha June 30, 1925 to Diana & H. Sol Novitsky. Moved to Sioux City in



1935 and always claimed dual citizenship in Nebraska & Iowa.



Became active as a teenager in Jewish affairs by founding the AWR Club and became its first President.



She was AZA Sweetheart & Queen of the Jewish Youth Council. Graduated from Sioux City Central High



and won American Legion’s Bronze Medal for Outstanding Student in American History.



Attended the University of Illinois and joined Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. Won the Shi Ai Scholarship



award her sophomore year by the University, and was named outstanding alum.



Married Lloyd Friedman in February 1947 and moved back to Omaha where she joined the Board of the



Omaha Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) “Council” in May. At the time of her



death, she served 69 years having done every job except Thrift Shop Chair, but did volunteer at the Thrift



Shop every Monday for 38 years. She served as NCJW Regional President and on the National Board.



Lois was Chairman of the Red Stockings fundraiser in 1957 and 1959, and was named Honorary



President of the Omaha Section. NCJW honored Lois 3 times, selecting her to receive its highest national



honor – the Hannah G. Solomon award.



Was President of the Jewish Women’s Clubs of the Omaha Jewish Federation as well as board member



of the Jewish Federation Budget Committee for 7 years. Lois was a member of the Women of Reform



Judaism for 27 years, and she served on the Temple Israel Board of Trustees and Co-Chairman of the



100th anniversary celebration of the Temple.



Was a founding member of the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society (NJHS) and served as its President.



Was a Life Member in NCJW, Hadassah and NJHS.



Lois is preceded in death by husband Lloyd, and is survived by son and daughter-in-law Scott & Debbie



Friedman; grandchildren, Jennifer and Robert Roth (Chicago) & Angela Friedman (Omaha); and great-



granddaughter, Leah Roth (Chicago); sister Gloria Rosenblum (Los Angeles), nieces and nephews, and



many, many good friends.
