Lucille Franco Mullin

February 27, 1924 — February 26, 2017

Lucille Franco Mullin was born to proud Italian immigrants, John and Lena Franco. Lucille was the oldest of the four Franco girls. She was raised in Omaha and attended Central high school. After high school Lucille wanted to attend College but her mother said "girls did not go to college”. So Lucille worked in the insurance industry for two years after which she announced she was moving to California. Her mother promptly enrolled her in UO's teachers college. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Omaha and taught in the Omaha Public School system. Lucille married Jack Mullin in 1950, starting their family in Omaha, moving to Grand Island, later to Denver and finally returned to Omaha. She enjoyed volunteering in the community. Her favorite pastimes were reading a good book, the financials and world news, bowling, square dancing, hosting a game of bridge and pinochle, long walks and riding her bike just before dusk. Lucille was a night owl, enjoying quiet late night evenings. She was an intelligent, delicate, and enduring lady that always put others before herself. She was famous at family functions for her potato salad; the main ingredient was love. She was a very kind person, but was not afraid to be stern when necessary. "Wait till your father gets home was commonly heard in the house".

Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Jack and parents John and Lena Franco, she is survived by children: Marilee (Jim VandeVegt), Linda Arnold (Scott), John (Marirose Ferrara), Richard; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; sisters Marie (Donald) Shafer, JoAnn (Thomas) Bradley, Dolores (William) Carlisle. Sister-in-laws Rose Elaine Barber and Sharlo Mullin and brother-in-law Bill (Helen) Mullin along with numerous nieces and nephews.
