Martha (Marti) W. Skrocky LCSW, LISW
Marti was born in Duncan Oklahoma on August 14, 1947. She passed away in Omaha NE on March 5, 2023. She attended the University of Oklahoma, and the University of NE at Omaha for her BSW and MSW.
Marti met her husband John J (Jack) Skrocky Jr on a blind date at a Christmas Formal in 1967. After 1 week she asked him to marry her! They were married at Bitburg Air Force Base in Bitburg, Germany on July 6, 1968. They were married for 54 years and lived most of those years in Omaha.
Marti was preceded in death by her father James Estel Welty and her mother Janet Carol Bartholomew Welty. Jack and Marti had no birth children, but she was “Auntie” to many children and a friend and mentor to even more adults.
Marti practiced as a Clinical Social Worker for families at Saint James Day Care, Bergan Mercy, Richard Young, Lutheran Family Service, and served at Heartland Family Service (previously Family Services) from 1981 to 2008.
Marti is survived by her husband, Jack, as well as her sister Carol Roper (Phil) of Chugiak, Alaska; nieces Jennifer Bowers (James) of Bakersfield, CA (children Isaac and Logan); Christina Roper of San Francisco, CA (daughter Venice); and nephew Andrew Beuch (Libby) of Rock Hill SC, (children Drew, Hayden, and Shelby); sister-in-law Lorraine Van Denburgh of Sedona, AZ; and nieces Bonnie Bailey of Fallbrook, CA and Mandy Van Denburgh (Barbara Yunker) in Huntington Beach, CA.
Marti’s remains have been donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska for student study.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at John A. Gentleman Mortuary, 72nd & Western, in Omaha on March 24, 2023, followed by refreshments.
