In Loving Memory of
Mary Ann Monica (Matya) Rindone
1931 ~ 2025
A beloved child of God, Mary Ann Monica Rindone was born on August 16, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, to Thomas and Katherine (Browers) Matya. The eighth of eleven children, she grew up on the family farm. As her older brothers moved to Omaha, they convinced their parents to join them, where Mary Ann attended Holy Angels Grade School and North High School in Omaha. After graduation, she worked in various jobs, eventually finding a position with the power company.
Mary Ann met Emilio in their childhood neighborhood, where he immediately took a liking to her. The story goes that one day, as they were chatting on the driveway, Emilio asked, “How old are you?” She replied, “Fourteen!” To which he boldly responded, “That’s old enough! I’m going to kiss you!” And thus began their love story. Emilio later served in the Army during the Korean War, and on December 27, 1956, they were married at Holy Angels Church in Omaha. Though they had no children, Mary Ann and Emilio came from large extended families and had many nieces and nephews to enjoy. They were also very close to Emilio's younger brother Edigio and his sister Linda, sharing many adventures, including trips to Kansas City for Royals' baseball games. Mary Ann’s love for the Royals remained strong until her final days.
Emilio designed and built the couple’s home near 90th & Charles Street, where they lived for 65 years. It was her home until Mary Ann moved to New Cassel Retirement Center in 2021, where she remained active, continuing to play bridge and becoming a skilled penny bingo player, often winning the grand prize. She also never missed a performance by ‘Elvis.'
Mary Ann and Emilio shared not only a deep love for one another but also a passion for hobbies like gardening, bridge, traveling, and polka dancing. They frequently danced the night away at the local VA, their laughter filling the air. They also enjoyed regular dates at the casino, where Mary Ann likely honed her penny bingo skills! Their bond was so special that they even shared a birthday and often joked about having the same anniversary. The couple was inseparable until Emilio’s passing in 2021, and in a beautiful turn of fate, Mary Ann passed away on the anniversary of Emilio's funeral, forever united in love. Valentine’s Day held particular significance for Emilio, and Mary Ann made sure to arrive at her eternal home in time to be with him, just as she had been throughout their years together.
Mary Ann was cherished by all who knew her—friends and family alike. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and elegant lady who always had a supportive laugh ready for her jokester husband. Her own wry sense of humor made them a perfect pair. Mary Ann peacefully passed away at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 12, 2025.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Mentzer; sisters-in-law Virginia Matya, Anna Dredla, Linda (Mike) Ryan; brothers-in-law Renato (Lyn) Rindone, Edigio (Pat) Rindone; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, who brought her joy and filled her heart whenever she saw them. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emilio; her parents, Thomas and Katherine Matya; and siblings Monica (Waldo) Stemmerman, Rosella (Boniface) Seamann, Angeline (Floyd) Henderson, Dolores Schroeder Miller (Robert Schroeder, Elwood Miller), infant Mary Magdalene, Edward (Blanche) Matya, Leo Matya, Thomas (Bernadine, Ferne) Matya, and Raymond Matya.
