Michael Dale Poyzer was born on December 28, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa. His family moved to Sheldon, IA, when he was 6. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1999 where he was active in band, theatre, and was the manager of the football team.
Michael accepted Christ and was baptized when he was 16. He became involved in leading youth groups at Sutherland Church of Christ and LeMars Church of Christ where he helped organize fun activities to encourage other youth to lead Christian lives and strength their walk with Christ.
As an enthusiastic college student, Michael was involved in campus ministry at Nebraska Christian College where he graduated with a degree in family ministry in 2004. While a student at NCC he received a service award for his demonstration of having a servant’s heart in 2003. In 2004 he received a progress reward in recognition of significant spiritual and mental growth. Soon after graduation he became a campus minister for Christian Student Fellowship where he started a campus ministry at the University of Nebraska Omaha campus. He received a master’s degree in Counseling in 2011 and enjoyed working with adolescents as a Behavioral Health Therapist for Immanuel Hospital.
Jillian and Michael were married in 2004 and during their eleven years of marriage they had two boys, Micah and Jonah.
Michael loved his family, but above all he loved God. He enjoyed reading anything that would help him strengthen his relationship with Jesus and with others. In addition to reading, he loved spending time outdoors, fishing, watching movies and spending quality time with his sons. Even though he struggled with his health, he never quavered in his faith of God’s perfect plan.
Michael is survived by his wife, Jillian; sons Micah and Jonah; parents Mark and Marcia Poyzer of Sheldon, IA; sister Mindee Henry of Wichita, KS; brother Matthew Poyzer of Chandler, AZ; grandmother Evelyn Collard of Orem, UT; grandfather Mel Poyzer of Pt.
