Michael T. Fahey Sr.,87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19 at his home in Bellevue, Nebraska. Mike was surrounded by family who loved and cared deeply for him and did their very best to fill his last days with love, laughter, music, and compassion. Mike was a unique and wonderful personality who loved to laugh and sing, tell jokes, hike in the woods, and embarrass his grandchildren in public. He was born in 1934 to the late Irene and William Fahey and was proud of his Irish heritage yet had great admiration and respect for all cultures. He married the late Rosemarie Costa (m. 1960; div. 1977) and had two children together Michael Fahey Jr. (Melanie) of Houston, Texas, and Linda (Kevin) Necker of Omaha, NE. Mike is also survived by his caring former wife of 25 years, Marilyn Desmond of Albany, New York as well as his brother William Fahey of Old Saybrook, Ct, and his sister Jane Bender of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to his immediate family, Mike is survived by five wonderful grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will all treasure his memory. He was also a wonderful “Dog Dad” to numerous dogs over the years who were his constant companions, and who adored him.
Mike lived a full life, traveled, served in the US. Army and spoke four languages. He read extensively and could converse on nearly any subject with authority. He graduated from Wagner College, Staten Island with a degree in Chemistry and had a long career in this industry including positions at General Electric, Waterford, NY, and Degussa Huls, New Rochelle, NY before starting his own recruitment firm of Nortech Resources. He had a deeply rooted Christian faith, attended St, Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Albany, New York, and sang in many local church groups. He has surely now been admitted to the great Heavenly Choir where he will sing his beloved Beethoven's 9th Symphony for all eternity. Michael T. Fahey was a true Renaissance man, and his passing is the end of an era for those who knew and loved him. Rest In Peace dear father, brother, husband, grandfather, and uncle.
Special thanks to the staff at Heritage Ridge in Bellevue and CHI Home Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for all of us. A virtual Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date to be announced shortly.
