Nancy J. Haske

 Nancy Jean Van Etten Haske, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 27 surrounded by her family.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Tony, and their children; Tony Haske Jr., Julie (Mark) Oberlies, John (Marlene) Haske, Nancy (Jim) Schoenecker, Lucy (Jason) Beiter, Perry (Jayne) Haske, Jeanne Haske, daughter-in-law Molly Haske, as well as eighteen grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and children, Nancy is survived by her sisters Kathleen Hall, and Elaine (Emmet) Cassidy.

Nancy was preceded in death by her son Daniel, parents Bernard and Katherine Van Etten, her sister Marjorie Bersell, and brothers Bernard Van Etten and Jack Van Etten.

Nancy was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, the fifth child of Bernard and Kathleen Van Etten. She graduated from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, where she met her husband, Tony. Her love of children led her to pursue a teaching career. 

Nancy and Tony were married in November of 1963. They began their family in Prospect Heights, IL. In 1972, Nancy and her family relocated to Omaha. Nancy enjoyed many years of being a stay at home mother until she began teaching part time and eventually full time.

She was active in the community. Upon moving to Omaha, she co-chaired adult education at St. Pius and eventually St. Leo, taught at St. Pius X, served as a Eucharistic Minister for 30+ years, was active in Christ Child, prepared meals for the St. Francis House since the inception of the program, and served on the Human Needs Ministry for 20+ years.

Nancy was perpetually happy and loved to laugh, sing and dance, regardless if she knew the lyrics or tune. Those close to her will not only remember her infectious love for life, holidays, and the company of others, but also her humility. She had a love and concern for all people and always made others feel good after spending time with her. Nancy’s sensitivity, careful listening,

and selflessness all sprang from her unwavering faith in God’s goodness. 

More than anything, Nancy enjoyed time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to read, bake, sew, knit, and needlepoint. Her friends and family knew her as a faithful source of birthday cards.

Nancy will be greatly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

VISITATION begins Thursday, Nov 3rd, 5:00 PM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 102nd and Blondo Street, with a  WAKE SERVICE at 7:00 PM.

A MASS of CHRISTIAN BURIAL  will be held Friday, Nov. 4th, at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 102nd and Blondo Street.
