Survived by Cathleen “Kay”, his loving wife of 63 years, and children Paul (Kristy) Bashus, Mary Borowiak, Tracy Hobbs, Lisa (Dan) McClain, and Christopher; grandchildren Michelle Borowiak, Jon Hobbs, Anna Bashus, Emily Bashus, and Jackson McClain.
Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Helen Pillar Bashus and grandson Ryan Hobbs.
Paul was born and lived most of his life in Omaha. He attended Central Grade School and was a graduate of Central High School and Omaha University. He served proudly in the Marine Corp during the Korean war. After working at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico, he returned to Omaha for a 31-year career in IT at Mutual of Omaha. Volunteering in several groups, he worked with Boy Scouts, United Way, Data Processing Managers Association (A.I.M.), Central High alumni, neighborhood groups, and his church.
He enjoyed travels throughout the country with his family, and touring in Europe with Kay. Favorite sports over the years ranged from gymnastics and wrestling in high school and later was challenged by mountain climbing, bowling, tennis, and golf. He maintained close friendships throughout the years, from childhood through retirement. Highlights were volunteer projects, meeting for lunch or sport activities, not the least of which were the traditional ongoing neighborhood Cornhusker watch parties.
Paul was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, son, son-in-law, and uncle. His Catholic faith was central to his life. Our lives are all made better by him. Vaya con Dios dearest one.
