Phyllis Ann (Shrum) Holmstrom was born June 22, 1944, in California. She passed away October 21, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was sixteen, and working at Goodrich Dairy in Omaha when a handsome young man came in to buy milk for his siblings. Phyllis quickly fell in love with Kenneth Holmstrom, and the couple were soon married. With Ken Phyllis found not only a husband but the family that she had been longing for. Ken’s parents welcomed her into the family and loved her as their own daughter. Ken’s five sisters became Phyllis’s sisters and lifelong friends.
Phyllis and Ken raised five sons. Phyllis showed her boys how to love and taught them how to say “I love you.”
Phyllis graduated from cosmetology school in 1961. She worked as a hair stylist for many years. She worked at Villa De Sante nursing home where she met many good friends. Phyllis worked at Children’s Hospital as an aid in outpatient surgery. She had a gift for working with children and their families, using her humor to keep everyone entertained. Many families felt that Phyllis’s caring and support made a difficult time a little bit better. Phyllis retired from Children’s Hospital August 29, 2014. She worked part-time at Charter Title where she kept the whole staff entertained with her wit and humor. Phyllis continued to work as a CNA, caring for people in their homes, until the last few months of her life.
