R. Peter Pichik

The memory of Pete brings a gentle smile to the face of everyone who was lucky enough to have known him. That is the legacy of Pete Pichik.



Born in the Fox River Valley of Illinois nearly 92 years ago, the second of three boys to Peter and Helen, Pete’s early years charted the path for the man he would become. With two brothers off to the service, Pete’s asthma kept him at home to help look after his single mother, instilling in him a lasting sense of duty and strength of character. Fate – and mutual friends – brought Pete and Mary, the love of his life, together at a hayrack ride in the early ‘60’s. Soon they married and he embraced the role of “father” to Mary’s son, Tom, and soon the family grew to include another son, Mike.



As with nearly everyone during those years, Pete’s working career in the manufacturing industry in Chicago filled much of his time, but didn’t prevent him from excelling at teaching his sons by day-to-day example what it means to be a father, family man and a good provider. He simply was THERE for them – always!



When his boys were grown and settling in Omaha, grandchildren and Mary’s fragile health drew them to make the decision to follow, and Pete and Mary moved to Omaha in 2006. His love of people led them to enjoy dinner dances, bus trips throughout the country, involvement in Golden Kiwanis and Silver & Gold and numerous other church and volunteer activities and, of course, the ongoing practice and devotion of his deep faith.



Following the loss of his beloved Mary, Pete became even more active in every event in his family’s lives bringing smiles and supportive words to all those around.



Pete will be remembered for being kind, faithful, principled, hard working, intelligent – and one of the best “huggers” you’d have the pleasure to meet. He will be missed by his family, his friends, his colleagues, his caretakers, by everyone whose lives he touched.



A true man’s man – Pete now goes home to give Mary a big hug!



Pete is survived by sons Tom (Sue) Weidner and Mike Pichik; grandchildren Matt, Sarah, Alex and Natalie; brother-in-law Ted Schnell and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be laid to rest next to Mary at Resurrection Cemetery in Omaha.



In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sheltering Tree, Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or Rose Blumkin Jewish Home.
